MEET MICHAEL BALL
Captain Michael Ball
Michael Ball is an author, speaker, certified Genesis Relapse Prevention Coach, and retired merchant mariner captain. He is also a recovered drug addict who uses his past experiences to offer hope and guidance to others.
His story is captured in his book, A Fall to Grace, and through his ministry work with MLB Family Ministries, he has inspired many incarcerated individuals and their families.
A Powerful Testimony
Michael’s journey to recovery began after serving three and a half years for a drug conviction in the State of Maine.
Released on April 15, 2003, he has since led a clean and sober life, dedicating himself to Jesus Christ. In the year following his release, Michael married Lori, a Christian Life Coach and Addiction Specialist. They gained custody of his son, William, who has been working on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC for over a decade.
Redemption and Service
Upon his release, Michael built and ran a successful commercial fishing and lobstering business until 2011. During this period, he obtained his Able Body Seaman Unlimited License and later, his 100 Ton Master’s License with Endorsements from Maine Maritime Academy. He became a full-time Master Captain, and his TWIC card allowed him access to all US ports and military bases.
Michael retired as a Tug Master Captain from the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 25 Marine Division in 2023. In his retirement, he focuses on his ministry, serving those who are incarcerated.
Dedicated to Ministry
He is a member of the advisory board for the Florida Foundation for Correctional Excellence, volunteers for Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree program, and is a member of Marked Men for Christ.
As of July 2024, Michael has visited 12 correctional institutes in northwest Florida, sharing his testimony and donating over 100 copies of his book to the prison system.
His personal journey through addiction and incarceration allows him to connect deeply with his audience, offering mentorship and hope to those in need. Michael’s dedication to his faith and ministry continues to bring about positive change and inspire many.
